Meeting Went Very Well

We saw quite a few new faces today. Ms. Crenshaw's presentation was wonderful. Everyone participated smoothly and progressed in a steady direction. Of course none of it would have been possible without the members that have attended. I look forward to seeing everyone next month.

The ZaniLa Rhyme

For our June meeting we will be learning how to write in the ZaniLa Rhyme style of poetry. The ZaniLa Rhyme is a repeating form of poetry created Laura Lamarca. It consists of three 4 line stanzas with set poetic length. :)

Much Better This Time Around!

Yesterday's meeting for Indigo Poets was much better than last month. We had a great discussion, participated in various writing prompts, learned the poetic style that is the Alexandrine and overall had a great time and I am looking forward to the our next meeting.

Next meeting is June 2, 2012 @ 2:00 p.m.

More details in the next blog! :)

Poetry Prompts

Here are the poetry prompts for our upcoming meeting:

Prompt #1: Has there ever been a time in your life when you struggled with your connection with "God"? Was the battle even worth it? Did you learn anything from it? Was it inspirational?

Prompt #2: Have you ever developed an attraction for a person who was emotionally unavailable? Were they supposedly in a relationship? Did you want them so bad you fantasized about them?

Prompt #3: Have you ever felt like someone or something was missing from your life? When it came back how did it make you feel?

See you guys this Saturday! :)

Alexandrines

For our upcoming meeting I would like us to focus on Alexandrines. Firstly an Alexandrine is a metrical line of poetry written in iambic hexameter which consists of approximately twelve syllables.

Our key focus points for next month's meeting will be as follows:

1. Read over constructive examples of  and discuss Alexandrines

2. Engage in 10 minutes of free writing.

3. Reveal what you were thinking by reading in turns.

4. Practice writing a single Alexandrine (twelve syllables)

5. Engage in poetry writing prompts and construct poems entirely from Alexandrines

6. Read, analyze, discuss, edit.

P.S. Bring some of your own work to read it will be fun and an excellent way to connect! Also bring some poetry by your favorite author that we can analyze and discuss as a group. It is always fun interpreting the meanings of poems. :)

See you there!

Focus Points

For this month's meeting (which is tomorrow) we will be focusing on the following criteria as follows:

1. Each member shall introduce themselves to one another. The members shall then engage in conversing about how/why they became writers, what inspired them to become writers, What their goals are as writers, and what they plan to do to achieve these goals.

2. If any member brings any of their work to be read or shared amongst the other members they should limit it to up to three poems. This will apply to all members.

3. We will then take a break and engage in 10 minutes of free writing to get the juices flowing in order to prepare us for our creative writing prompts.

4. We will then engage into the creative writing prompts that have been prepared for us.

5. Members shall then place their poems in a stack for a random shuffle and then pass them around to random members of the group to critique. They shall then proceed to hand the poems back to each poet and allow them to edit it. This process shall then be repeated.

6. Members shall then discuss what inspired them to write the poems and elaborate upon the symbolism/role of each device used in their poem and how it aids the poem in developing its meaning.

7. We shall then engage in an additional 10 minutes of free writing and then have a little Q & A/Brain storming session for ideas on what members think we could do to improve the group. Feedback is always essential!

8. Members will each be given a copy of the April 2012 issue of POETRY Magazine upon departure.

Happy National Poetry Month!

Our Purpose

The Indigo Poets Poetry Club is a non-profit organization aiming specifically to cater to helping poets build relationships with each other as well as coming together to realize and experiment with all areas of the craft. The purpose of this group is to gather like minded poets with similar goals to come together and realize these goals. We will actually practice writing prompts and write in different forms and also a list of specific poetry books will be assigned to all group members to read and discuss between meetings. I will also be handing out free copies of the April 2012 issue of POETRY magazine in celebration of National Poetry Month.
